Small swimming pool in house?

I'm building a house fairly soon and just going through some rough ideas that could go toward my home. I cant remember where i saw it but in this TV programme there was a swimming pool that split the kitchen and the living room. It would almost be a small stream but big enough that you could do some very small lengths in. It would be mostly for decorative reasons and i would have a small stone bridge going over it. These are all just ideas and i would like to know how practical it would be and if there would be much point, also how much money roughly it would cost. Sorry for the length and any answers would be greatly appreciated.
