What's a good video editing program for character generators and such?

I'm working on a project for an up coming television show and I just want to know of a really good video editing program that provides good graphics and good character generator effects, you know for example if I'm filming a speaker live, there would be a decorative box on the bottom of the tv screen that shows the speaker's name and such. I want to do something like that, but also I'm looking for a good program that provides good graphics and effects as well. I've heard about Final Cut Pro, but I don't have a Mac and I don't think my pc supports that. So if there's anything else, please let me know. But the main thing I'm looking for something that I could create really cool graphics and character generators (logo boxes at the bottom of your tv screen that shows a speaker's/anchorman's name i.e. a newscast) Thanks!!
