What type of wood should I use for a war chest?

I'm making a decorative military foot locker, or war chest, to keep at my cabin. I want it to match the decor at the cabin which is a lot of red wood or oak paneling, furniture...etc. What materials would look best, and not rot in humidity, and cold (this is in Michigan). Also I'm having the USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor burnt into the cover so it has to display that well too.
